How do you stop the time thieves?

Last week I received a call from a leader who was overwhelmed and frustrated by his ever-increasing workload, which he felt like he was never going to be able to get to.

You see, he would set aside time to complete the work that was important to him, only to find someone had booked him into a meeting. Or perhaps one of his team members saw him alone and came in to ask him to focus on what they wanted him to do.

Sound familiar?

Now, this leader is a nice guy. He really wants an ‘open door policy' and to be accessible to others.

But in reality, he has become the bottleneck.

So what's the answer? He needs to set some strong boundaries and back up his words with behaviour.

Remember, we teach people how to treat us. So don't expect your team or others around you to change, that onus is directly on you!
