It's probably one of the most important roles you have as a leader, and yet it can tend to cause you to feel apprehensive if you need to deliver news that might not be well received.
It's so important we do this and do it well because it makes our jobs so much easier, it helps improve the engagement levels of our teams and it helps to produce the results we want.
Here are my top 3 tips on how to give feedback:
Make it a habit to give your team both positive and constructive feedback regularly. Don't be the leader that only talks to your team member when they have done something wrong.
Be honest and give specific examples. This helps your team member to put the feedback in context and allows them the opportunity to ask questions.
Become really curious about why they did the way they chose to. Ask questions with an open mind. Chances are every now and then their feedback will highlight a gap in your process or system that you can improve for everyone.
