Want to know what to focus on first when leading a new team?
I was asked this question in my Masterclass last week by an aspiring leader who is about to take on a new leadership role leading a team.
Here are my top 3 tips:
Lead with a vision. Both your vision as the leader and the business vision. It's important to engage your team into that vision, by either sharing it or co-creating it with them.
Build relationships with your team. Make the time to have a coffee (or a virtual coffee) and understand what makes them tick. Ask curious questions about their motivations and aspirations. Find out their DISC profile, and think about how you can adapt your communication to suit them.
Back yourself. Take a step back and look at why you are in that role. Take a moment to look at your strengths and play to those strengths, and be proud of what you have had to achieve to be able to get to this point and use that to be the focus to move you forward.
Let me know how it goes for you. Hit reply and tell me which tip resonates the most with you.
